Despite loving racing so much, I've never actually seen cars on the track. I've seen Moto GP a couple of times which has always been breathtakingly intense, but at bigger circuits like Donnington and Silverstone, and of course you can't get close to the pits without a pass! Coming to Croft was a vastly different experience.
Great livery on the little golf and looking well without the rear bumper; much more serious a look. Shame MK2's don't look this good without the rear bumper.
Another MK1 which unfortunately didn't make the end of the first lap I don't believe. The yellow and white colours work super well together, very period correct looking to me.
A proper little car this XR2 with some wonderful wheels. I love the rear window on these which is reminscent of the MK1 Golf but with a much greater definition on the edge parts.
This is what I had come to see - super special in person with a lot of fascinating little details. I'm very grateful to the owners of the car who allowed me to look all around it and even inside. I don't know how much of the car is original but it looks exceptional with the patinated metal and bold colours in the livery.
I wouldn't have known they face mounted wheels on this car - maybe for getting the wide tyres under the relatively standard body?
Unfortunately we never saw this car on track, I'm not sure why, but it looked brilliant in any case. Just how low the roofline is when the car is in race trim is a big surprise.
Something I didn't expect was the Craig Lowndes Falcon which made an immense sound and looked incredibly imposing down the pit straight under a black sky later in the day.
Shame to see a relatively big crash right at the start of the Junior Saloon race. There must only be a finite number of these cars left in raceable condition - I wonder what they'll turn to next?
This race made for some fantastic action and we chose a great spot just coming out of the second corner onto one of the straights.
Now we're onto the exciting stuff.
This Vectra made an incredible noise.
I had hoped to see some Supertouring style E36's at this even tnad the Warsteiner livery on this made a great impression on me; even better was to see it as part of the Supertouring race on track with some of the best racing cars ever built.
Too soon it's the end of the race and the end of our day. There are some more races left on the day but I don't really like the Caterhams as cars and, although I appreciate the brilliant racing and the massive effort that goes into the championship on the behalf of so many people, we've got a bit of a journey home and it just doesn't make for enjoyable viewing for me so we decided to head back.
